Pay-What-You-Can Relaxed Performances will be offered on the closing Sunday matinee of each theatre series offering.
Relaxed Performances are open to everyone but intended specifically to be sensitive to and accepting of anyone who may find the usual theatre environment challenging, be that due to an Autism Spectrum Condition, a learning disability, or a fear of the dark, loud noises or confined spaces.
This means that there is a more casual-than-usual approach to front-of-house etiquette and we ask audience members to be aware of people's needs to move or make involuntary noise.
The performance will be slightly adapted to make a more comfortable environment: the lights in the theatre remain on low throughout the show, you'll be free to leave and re-enter at any point if you need to.
These shows are for anyone. Parents are welcome to bring small children if the content is appropriate, families should feel welcome to bring members living with dementia, and we encourage anyone who wishes to discuss their requirements further to contact us.
Visual Stories to aid patrons familiarize themselves with the theatre experience will be available in advance by request. Familiarization visits for those for whom new venues can cause anxiety may be arranged by contacting email@example.com.
We welcome your feedback on your relaxed performance experience to ensure we are doing everything possible to make theatre accessible to all.
STC is the fourth theatre company in Canada to implement relaxed performances and the only one committing to them for every main stage theatre offering in the season.
